About Hanmer Springs
At 380 metres above sea level this alpine village is often blanketed in snow in winter - transforming it into a winter wonderland. However, it is a spectacularly beautiful place no matter what the season.

The alpine village of Hanmer Springs offers visitors a rich variety of experiences and adventure. Many visitors are simply not prepared for what is on offer. Jet boat, bungy jump and raft, mountain bike, 4WD safaris and horse trek or visit Molesworth and Rainbow Stations (famous sheep stations), to name a few.
Take one of the many lovely scenic walks that begin close to the village centre winding their way through one of New Zealand's oldest exotic forests. Other walks take you through stands of native forest. Guided walks are available for those who want to get off the beaten track and explore this rich and diverse area.

The steaming natural waters of the Hanmer Springs Thermal Reserve are situated in one of New Zealand's finest thermal complexes. Known by the ancient Maori, who used the area to rest during their travels to collect pounamu (New Zealand Jade) from the West Coast, the springs have eased the bones of visitors for over a hundred years. They provide an attraction that brings many thousands of visitors to the area annually.
Skiing is a popular pastime during the winter months with two ski fields located a short drive from the village and still relatively uncommercialised.

The local rivers boast excellent trout fishing (both fly and lure) while salmon may be found in many rivers also.
For the travel-weary visitor, Hanmer Springs is a haven - park your car and stay a while, everything is within walking distance.
